Peter Ickx was born in Antwerp in 1958. From a very tender age he was attracted by classical music. He takes up the piano and the recorder, and sings in the well-known boys’ choir of St Lieven’s School, which he attended for a number of years.

After his secondary education Peter takes up the violin and singing at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Music. He earns the First Prize in Solfeggio and a DipEd in Chambermusic, and also obtains his Master’s degree. At the Flemish Conservatoire of Brussels and at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles he gains First Prizes and the Higher Diploma in opera singing and in concert singing.
He is the first qualified countertenor in Belgium.
In the course of his musical education he is taught by Liane Jespers, Louis Devos, René Jacobs (Basel, Switzerland), Ludovic de San and Loh Siew Tuan (London). They guide him as he works on his talent and musical development.

Peter specialises in the genres of concert, song, opera and oratorium. In but little time he creates an impressive repertoire. He contributes to numerous CD-recordings as a soloist.

He regularly sings succesful recitals in the foyers of the Bourla Theatre in Antwerp and the Theâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, but also outside Belgium: Italy, Croatia, Poland, Israel, France …
Aside from his singing career, Peter Ickx is also actively involved in the artistic direction of ensembles and choirs. E.g. he directs the Cappella di Albero, a vocal ensemble he founded in 1995.

Finally he also has a great interest in musical education.

At first Peter taught with Ludovic de San at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles (1989-1997) and with Gerda Harman at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons (1197-2003), where he becomes a professor later. Since 2003 he has been teaching at the Musical academies of Boom and Meise.
